In search engine optimization
(SEO) point of view, a backlink is a hyperlink that links from a Web page, back
to your own Web page or Web site. It is also known as an Inbound Link (IBL). Google counts these links for determining the
popularity (or importance) of a web site. Backlinks tell search engines like Google,
yahoo and Bing how popular your website is.
A backlink also plays an
important role in gaining good page rank. Google considers the quality and
quantity of backlinks to determine Page Rank. So, it is a good practice to get
backlinks from do follow and high PR sites. Note that a natural backlink is more
valuable to search engines than reciprocal links, and they are harder to get.
For example – If you are the
owner of website A and your website is added in website B then website B’s link
is backlink for your website.
